Wacky Wednesday & Wacky Thursday

Wacky Wednesday and Wacky Thursday
Wednesday, May 2nd and Thursday, May 3rd

To celebrate the wonderful letter “Ww,” let’s wear our wildest and wackiest gear!  These days are just for fun, so add to the smiles and laughter by wearing mismatched clothes inside-out or backwards… wear a colorful hat, stripes with dots, mismatched socks, sunglasses, or dress up as something or someone else!

2018-19 Priority Registration

Registration for the 2018-2019 School Year:
Registration for Preschool & Kindergarten begins Monday, May 7th

It’s time to renew your child’s enrollment for the 2018-19 school year at Kinder Works.  As with last year, you can complete your renewal online!

Current Kinder Works clients have a one-week private registration period, in which you receive priority over the general public.  Private registration begins on Monday, May 7th and continues through Friday, May 11th.  We will email you the appropriate secure link today, Thursday, April 26th; please be sure to watch for your email (or notify your Director if you would prefer a paper copy of the renewal form)!

All current schedule renewals received within this period will be automatically confirmed.  **This also applies to Toddlers who are graduating into the Preschool Program.

Renewals that request a change of schedule, and applicants for Private Kindergarten or Kindergarten Enrichment are taken on a first come, first served basis.  It is important for you to submit your enrollment renewal as soon as possible. Registration opens to the general public on Monday, May 14th.

Thank you for your cooperation in this process, and for choosing Kinder Works!

April Show & Tell

Preschool/Kindergarten SEL (“EQ”) Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, April 19th & 20th
“Where Did My Family Come From?”

As we learn about faraway places in exotic climes, it’s instructive to realize that our own family has come a long way to be here in PA.  This month, we will be looking at maps, as well as the globe, to see where India is located.  At the same time, we can find out where our relatives came from, and appreciate that in this “digital age,” when it appears that everyone is right here in the palm of your hand, we are really from all over our world!

Your teachers will send home one suitcase.  Please talk with your little one about which relative(s) came from where… and write your family name on the suitcase along with the country/city of origin.  Look for our map display!

April 2018 Theme & Calendar

Our April Theme:
India!

Let’s discover the wonders of India this month!  From the famous Taj Mahal, with its beautiful architecture, to the haunting music of the sitar, with its 18, 19, 20 or 21 strings, we have a lot to experience.  This country and culture is varied, with something for each of our curriculum areas:

Although English is widely spoken, Hindi is the official language.  But there are 22 major languages in India, written in 13 different scripts!  From these, India passes to future generations its ancient folktales, epic legends, and didactic stories designed to instruct children.

The fabulous landscape supports the Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, Asiatic lion, and the great Indian Rhino; and this is where the Indian banyan tree, the Lotus, and sweet-smelling Jasmine flowers grow.  The people there eat delicious Roti for dinner, with sweet Jalebi for dessert… and their recipes use spice combinations perfected over thousands of years!

Indian art consists of a wide variety of forms, all with a strong sense of design.  Over the millennia, it has been influenced by many cultures and shared by many religions all within India.  We are sure to be inspired to experiment with some of these forms.

Children and adults there play football, hockey, cricket, and kabaddi; and their classical dances are entrancing to watch.  Their musical system is quite different from ours: it divides the octave into 22 segments called shrutis, not all equal but each roughly equal to a quarter of a whole tone of Western music!

     Amazing India!
